Privacy notice

This explains what I collect when you use the free tools or get in touch, why I collect it, how long I keep it and what you can ask me to do with it. It is written in plain English rather than legal language, which is deliberate.

Who is responsible

Keith Turner, trading as Blue Light Coach (sole trader), is the data controller for the information described here.

Email: keith@bluelight.coach

What I collect

WhenWhat
The Shift Work Check Your name and email if you choose to unlock the full check. Your answers about your role, shift pattern, training, sleep, eating pattern, physical niggles and driving alertness. The scores calculated from them.
Bleep test readiness check Your name and email if you choose to unlock the full report. Your answers about your target, test date, fitness, symptoms, shift pattern, sleep, pain or injury and confidence. The scores calculated from them.
Pace tools Nothing, unless you ask for a plan — then your email, current level and the pace you entered.
Coaching enquiry Your name, email, role, what you need help with, and whatever you tell me in the message.

The pacing tools work without giving me anything. You only ever hand over an address if you want the full write-up or want to talk to me.

Health information

Some of what the tools ask about — pain, injuries, sleep, fatigue, feeling sleepy at the wheel — counts as health data under UK data protection law. That gets stronger protection than an email address does.

I only process it because you have given me explicit consent by choosing to submit the form, and only to produce your results and reply to you sensibly. I will not use it for anything else, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing me.

I am not a doctor and none of this is a medical record. If something in your answers suggests you should speak to a GP, physio or occupational health, the tools say so.

Why I collect it, and on what basis

PurposeLawful basis
Producing your results and emailing you a copyConsent
Health-related answers within those resultsExplicit consent
Replying to a coaching enquirySteps taken at your request before entering a contract
Sending training emails after you have asked for themConsent
Keeping records of coaching clientsContract, and legal obligation for tax records

Where the basis is consent, you can withdraw it whenever you like. Every email I send has an unsubscribe link, and you can email me instead if you would rather.

Who else sees it

I use a small number of services to run this. They process your information on my instructions and are not allowed to use it for their own purposes.

Some of these are based outside the UK. Where information is transferred abroad, it is protected by the safeguards UK data protection law requires, such as approved standard contractual clauses.

I do not sell your information, and I do not share it with other coaches, advertisers or your employer.

How long I keep it

Cookies and tracking

Confirm this is accurate before publishing The prototype site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. If you add Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or anything similar, this section must change and you will also need a cookie banner with genuine opt-in, since non-essential cookies require consent under PECR.

This site does not set cookies and does not use analytics or advertising trackers. Some tools remember your choices in the web address only — for example the pace you entered — which stays on your device.

The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads. [Delete this paragraph once fonts are self-hosted.]

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask me to:

Email keith@bluelight.coach and I will respond within one month. There is no charge.

Complaints

If you think I have handled your information badly, tell me first and I will try to sort it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Children

These tools are for adults working in or applying to the emergency services. They are not intended for under-18s and I do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this notice changes I will update the date at the top. If the change is significant and I hold your email address, I will tell you.
